A voz passiva em inglês é uma ” voz ” gramatical. O substantivo ou locução nominal que seria o objeto de uma sentença ativa correspondente (como “Nossas tropas derrotaram o inimigo “) aparece como sujeito de uma sentença ou cláusula na voz passiva (” O inimigo foi derrotado por nossas tropas”).

O sujeito de uma frase ou cláusula caracterizada pela voz passiva geralmente denota o destinatário da ação (o paciente), e não o executor (o agente).

Os verbos na voz passiva em inglês são formados em várias partes: a construção usual usa os verbos auxiliares to be ou to get junto com o particípio passado do verbo principal.

Brutus was stabbed by César.

O assunto, César, indica a pessoa que agiu.
O agente é expresso aqui com a frase de Brutus, mas isso pode ser omitido.
