Today’s lesson: How to close an email correctly.
Lesson Title
How to close an email correctly.
Duration: 30 minutes
Level: Upper intermediate or Advancede
Closing an email professionally is crucial in business culture
It shows respect and courtesy towards the recipient.
Phrases like “Kind regards,” “Looking forward to hearing from you,” or “Yours sincerely” convey politeness and create a positive impression.
Just as you want to start things off on the right foot with your greeting, you also want to part well. That means writing a friendly sign-off. And there are plenty of options to choose from. You’ll want to choose a closing that feels genuine to your personality and tailor it to the relationship to ensure an appropriate level of professionalism.
Even if you are friends, avoid any unprofessional closings in a business email, including “See ya later,” “XOXO,” or any other informal sign-offs.
Avoid using just your first name or a nickname, unless you are corresponding with a close friend or colleague. Include your full name, so there is no confusion over who you are.
Sincerely, Sincerely yours, Regards, Yours truly, and Yours sincerely.
These are the simplest and most useful letter closings to use in a formal business setting.
Looking forward to hearing from you,
