Diferença entre NO e NOT.

Qual é a  diferença ente NO e NOT?

Em resposta à sua pergunta Angelo: basicamente a diferença entre NO e NOT é usamos NO sozinho em resposta e NOT para tornar uma palavra, expressão ou cláusula negativa.

Em inglês, NO e NOT têm significados semelhantes, mas são usados de maneiras diferentes. É muito fácil ficar confuso com essas palavras.

Nesse post, explicarei a diferença entre NO e NOT.

NO

No is used as an exclamation:

  • “May I help you?” “No. Everything is okay.”
  • “Do you like the meal?” “No.”

No is used as an adjective before singular and plural nouns. It means ‘not a’ or ‘not any’:

NOT

Not is used as an adverb to make a sentence negative. It is often used with the verb ‘be’:

  • Sam is not in the office today.
  • The meeting wasn’t (= was not) difficult.

Not is often used to make an adjective or adverb negative:

  • Sam plays the guitar, but not very well.
  • “How are you?” “Not too bad.”

Remember, the adjective good can be combined with both NOT and NO

  • “How was the film?” “No good at all.”
  • “How was the film?” “Not good at all.”

Not is often used in short replies with a number of verbs

  • “Was the show good?” “I’m afraid not.”
  • “Is it going to snow tomorrow?” “I hope not.”
  • “Are you going out today?” “I think not.”
  • There were no special offers on the site today.
  • I have no time to spare. I’m too busy.
